According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Daveco is the largest liquor store in all the world. After experiencing first hand the grandeur (and beer selection) that is Daveco we can resoundingly say it was the biggest one any of us had ever seen. Think the Costco of liquor stores. We all weeped with joy as we walked the isles. Heck, I think this place would even make Baby Jesus weep. We were literally like kids in a candy store.
Here's one clip of video Erik streamed via Qik (check out the other clip on Qik, as well as the tornado we saw touch down just south of Denver -- one in which we weren't more than half a mile from) while we stood before the Gates of Heaven (the Imported Singles section), which included beers from six of the world's seven Trappist monasteries (minus Westvleteren).
Needless to say, we all dropped several hundred dollars (each) on what amounted to "The Ultimate Beer Run." Here's what I got (Chipper and Erik, chime in with what you guys purchased!):
- Achel Blond 5
- St. Bernardus Wit and Abt 12
- Delirium Nocturnum and Tremens
- Pyramid Imperial Hefe and Crystal Wheat
- Widmer W'08 Crimson Wheat
- Kapuziner Hefe
- Twisted Pine Brewing craft pack (2 bottles of 6 of their Twisted Pine series brews)
- Abita Turbodog
- Westmalle Tripel Dubbel
- Ommegang Three Philosophers
- Caracole Nostradamus
- Russian River Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig
- Rogue Dead Guy
- Unibrou Don de Dieu
- Gouden Carollus Noel
Zivjeli!

I'm especially envious of the Pliny find! I need to get another trip to Denver lined up.
I haven't hit Daveco the last few times I've been in town. I don't pack my "beer luggage" since the airlines started gouging for a second checked bag.
David, you will need an entire suit case JUST for the beer! ;) I didn't even get half of the stuff I wanted on that run! I kid you not!
I saw that TV on the news when I got home and was wondering if you and Erik would run into it. I guess you did! Nice. It's rare to get a close up view of a twister.
Great beer run. OMG what selection! I'm going to be living it up just as soon as this dayum sick bug goes away.
Chipper... sorry to hear you're sick man. So what wasn't allergies you were sneezing from then?
If you're better by Friday come on down and help us open Trinity in style!
Hmmmm. Westmalle Triple. Would you believe that I had one on Tuesday night at my gym? Yep, the gyms in Belgium have bars (everything does, including libraries) and I got myself a delish beer for 3 euros. So many other beers I don't recognize though. Its obvious that I'll have some homework when I move back to the States.
That's about the sexiest thing these eyes have seen. Interesting grab on the Abita Turbodog - my favorite beer from my home state. The perfect companion to red beans and rice!
